Why Fall Is a Smart Time for Kitchen Remodeling

a kitchen we designed, priced and built

Fall is when your kitchen goes back to work. The mornings get busy again, dinner moves indoors, and the holidays start showing up on the calendar. That is usually the week a homeowner calls us and says the kitchen has been bugging them for years.

We are Valley Home Construction. We have been building and remodeling for families in the Sacramento area since 1988. Here is why fall is a good season to start a kitchen, and what to line up first.

Fall gives you time to design before the holidays

The best part of a kitchen remodel happens on paper. You look at drawings, you move the sink, you change your mind, and none of it costs you anything.

Good design takes time. Starting in the fall gives you that time while the year is still calm. By the time the holidays arrive, you know exactly what you are building and what it costs.

Design is part of your price once you hire us. You see your kitchen on paper before we build it, and you change what you want while changes are still easy.

Contractor calendars fill up ahead of the work

Good crews get booked in advance. When you call in the fall, you are picking your spot on the calendar instead of taking whatever is left over.

Materials work the same way. Cabinets, counters, tile, and appliances all have to be ordered, and ordering takes time. Starting the design early means the ordering happens early too, so your build date is not sitting there waiting on a box to show up.

Decide how you cook before you pick a single finish

Most homeowners start with pictures. Pictures are useful, and they are also the easy part.

Start with how you actually use the room. Where do you set the groceries down? Who is at the stove while somebody else is at the sink? Where does the homework happen? Where do people end up standing when the house is full?

Once you can answer those, the layout gets obvious and the finishes get easier to pick. A kitchen built around your routine still feels right years later.

Write down the three things that bug you most

Before your first call, walk your kitchen and write down what frustrates you. Most lists sound about the same. There is nowhere to put anything. The light is bad after dark. Two people cannot work in here at once.

That list is worth more to us than a folder of photos. It tells us what the project actually has to solve, and it keeps the money pointed at the problems instead of the extras.

Here is how the work runs once you say go

It starts with a phone call. We talk about your project and answer your questions, and you will know quickly whether we are a good fit.

Then we come to your house. We measure, we look, and we listen to what bugs you and what you have been picturing.

Next we design it so you can see it before we build it. Once you like the drawings, you approve one written price. If opening a wall changes it, you hear it from us before the work or the money moves.

We pull the permits and handle the city, so you never stand in a line. We protect your floors and seal off the dust before demo starts. Our crew builds to the drawings you approved and keeps you updated in plain English, so you always know what happens next.

At the end we walk the finished job with you, room by room. Anything that needs attention goes on a list, and we fix the list before we call it done.

Can you live in the house while it happens?

Most families do. We seal off the work area, protect the floors, and keep the dust down. We talk all of that through at the home visit, in your own kitchen, so you know what to expect before anything starts.
